Lima Criolla
6406 N Interstate 35 Frontage Rd Ste 1550, Austin, TX 78752
If you’re looking for some authentic Peruvian food, look no further. Lima Criolla is one of the best places to eat in Austin. How do we know? We previously visited Peru, and Lima Criolla is the only place that reminds us of the food there. Let’s start off with the drinks, shall we?
Drinks
Lima Criolla’s Pisco Sour is one of the drinks you have to try when you’re there. It is a smooth, pale-yellow cocktail that is a blend of citrusy and floral notes. With your first sip, you’re greeted with a harmonious flavor of tanginess and sweetness. There’s an initial tartness from the freshly squeezed lime juice which is then swiftly followed by a silky, frothy egg white that provides a velvety texture to the drink. With every sip you take, you’ll find yourself craving for more.
The second drink that we recommend is the non-alcoholic beverage, Chicha Morada. If you don’t see it on the menu, just ask them for it! Chicha Morada is a velvety purple drink that is reminiscent of the majestic hues of ripe Andean purple corn. It has a sweet and earthy fragrance that fills the air with a scent of berries, spices, and a hint of floral undertones. With your first sip, you can taste a tapestry of flavors. The flavor is simultaneously sweet and tart, with a hint of spices. The tanginess cuts through the sweetness, adding a refreshing zing that balances the overall taste profile. There’s a harmonious marriage of flavors that dances across your palate, making you crave for more.
Food
Although both drinks were great, the food alone is absolutely worth visiting Lima Criolla for. To start off, the Ceviche Limeño is a dish that captures the essence of coastal freshness. The fish, typically firm and succulent, is carefully marinated in a tangy mixture of freshly squeezed lime juice. Surrounding the fish are slices of bright red, crispy onions; cilantro leaves, and juicy tomatoes, adding both sweetness and acidity to the ensemble. The aromas alone make your mouth water. With each bite, you experience a delightful medley of tastes and textures. The interplay of sweet, tangy, and savory notes dances on your palate, creating a harmonious balance that leaves a lasting impression. If you’re looking for a dish that is both light and refreshing yet bursting with complex flavors, this is the one.
The second dish that we recommend is the Peruvian dish, Arroz Chaufa de Mariscos. At the heart of the dish is a mound of perfectly cooked, fluffy rice. Nestled within the rice are an array of seafood treasures. Imagine plump shrimps, tender calamari rings, and juicy scallops, cooked to perfection and exuding freshness. Accompanying the seafood are an assortment of vibrant vegetables. If you’re looking for a dish that is comforting and flavorful, this is the one.
Bird Bird Biscuit
1401 W Koenig Ln, Austin, TX 78756
2701 Manor Rd, Austin, TX 78722
Hands down, Bird Bird Biscuit has the BEST chicken sandwiches, so if you’re ever in Austin, you must try this place because Bird Bird Biscuit is one of the best places to eat in Austin, Texas. We have tried many chicken sandwiches (Cindy absolutely loves them), and Bird Bird Biscuit takes the top spot.
Food
If you absolutely love eating hot chicken sandwiches, there is one sandwich you must try from Bird Bird Biscuit. That is the delicious, juicy Firebird! It is a sandwich with spiced chicken breast, topped with dill mayo, spicy sweet pickles, and cilantro. The Firebird is THE BEST chicken sandwich you will ever have. It beats Chic-fil-A’s Spicy Chicken Sandwich, Popeyes’ Spicy Chicken Sandwich, Dave’s Hot Chicken Sliders, and Ricky’s Sando. It’s slightly spicy with the perfect amount of flavor. The spiced chicken breast was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. For the price, it is definitely worth the try and rave!
However, if you prefer eating your chicken sandwiches on the sweeter side, you should try the Queen Beak. The Queen Beak has a spiced and breaded chicken breast, topped with cayenne black pepper honey and bacon-infused chipotle mayo. Like the Firebird, the spiced and breaded chicken breast was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Although the Queen Beak was delicious, it quickly became overwhelming due to the level of sweetness, so be cautioned when ordering this!
When ordering, we highly recommend ordering online prior to pick-up. Although you can order in-person, expect a long wait. For instance, we ordered online, but we received our food 30 minutes past the pick-up time. Although Bird Bird Biscuit isn’t timely, it comes to show how popular and good the food is!
Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls
200 Congress Avenue, Austin, TX 78701
Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls is a staple that can be found in several states; however, we have tried it at other places, and nothing has beaten the lobster rolls at this one location in Austin, Texas. It is one of the best places to eat in Austin!
Food
How was the food? Delicious! The Classic Lobster Roll is a refreshing option on a hot day. Served chilled with mayo and lemon butter, the Classic Lobster Roll is Jordan’s all-time favorite here. If the Classic Lobster Roll isn’t something you’re interested in, try the Connecticut Roll. Served warm with butter, the Connecticut Roll is Cindy’s all-time favorite at Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls. Make sure you get it “The Bar Harbor” way, to get more meat!
Customer Service
How was the customer service? Superb! Although the location was a bit out-of-the-way, the food and the customer service make up for it! The staff members were friendly and knowledgeable. Even though we were there a bit past closing (we’re sorry!), they did not mind. Rather, we were still welcomed with warming smiles and conversations. If you’re nearby, this is a place you have to absolutely try, especially if you love seafood!
